MVL Booster Club Auction is this weekend

NEW ULM — Go for the highest bid on a variety of items at the Minnesota Valley Lutheran (MVL) Booster Club’s Annual Auction this weekend.

Lunch starts at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 18, followed by the auction at 1 p.m. in the MVL gym. Mages Auctioneers will take bids on about 160 items during the live auction.

“They are going to be holding up items and telling jokes and hopefully getting the highest bid for each product we have out there,” Booster President Greg Peterson said.

The items range from physical objects such as quilts and wine to experience-based items like a day trip on Harley-Davidson Motorcycles for two.

As a fundraiser, the auction usually generates between $28,000 and $60,000 for the booster club.

All parents of MVL students are automatically members of the booster club along with any member of an associated congregation who chooses to be.

“The purpose of the booster club is to raise funds for what we call ‘extra curricular’ things, things that are not in the school budget,” Peterson said.

This year’s wish list includes: various sports team uniforms, a softball pitching machine, an elliptical, a stationary bike and more.

The total cost for the whole wish list is up to $37,800.

Money is raised by the club through its concession stand, school merchandise and occasional Belgian waffle breakfasts and pork chop feeds.
