NEW ULM — The New Ulm High School (NUHS) speech team took sixth place at the Mankato West ‘Scarlet’ Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 17 against 13 area schools. Varsity finalists included Nick Schultz and Emma Maudal (2nd place – Duo), Emma Maudal (3rd place – Humorous), Bethany Janssen (4th place – Great Speeches), Sara Guymon (6th place – prose), and Jade Ohotto (7th place – prose). Honorable mention ribbons went to Lucy Sletta (Humorous) and Nick Schultz (Humorous). Novice finalists included Megan Kelley (2nd place – Extemporaneous Reading) and Celia Fluegge (3rd place – Extemporaneous Reading).
