Sewing for Sight

All 60 spots for the Sewing for Sight retreat were filled as usual Saturday as quilters worked on their personal projects in a communal space at the St. George Parish Center. (Photos by Connor Cummiskey)
Featured Quilter Mary Waibel sits in front of one of her quilts displayed in the stage in the St. George Parish Center.
Featured Quilter Linda Poirier stands next to one of her quilts on display on the wall of the quilting retreat Saturday.
This photo of the church in San Lucas-Toliman, Guatemala and the table for collecting donations and some items from Guatemala greeted each guest as they entered the retreat.
Sylvia Aufderheide made this quilt, which was quilted by Ann Wendinger, in 2015 after Jinny Beyer’s border fabric and patterns in “The Quilter’s Album of Patchwork Patterns” inspired her. She named it “Stars in My Eyes.”
“Mr. Bones” was pieced by Linda Poirier and quilted by Patchwork Cupboard in Dassel. She purchased it as a kit for Halloween. It is one of two matching quilts she uses for her love seats.
Along with admiring quilts and shopping for some second-hand materials, guests at Sewing for Sight could enjoy some desserts and Guatemalan coffee.
