Fire in Marshall
MARSHALL — One person died in a Christmas Day fire that destroyed a Marshall residence on Monday.
Marshall Fire Chief Marc Klaith said the house fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and local law enforcement.
The Marshall and Ghent fire departments, along with North Memorial Ambulance and local law enforcement, responded to the scene of the house fire, which was reported on the 600 block of Elaine Avenue around 1:35 p.m. Smoke from the fire could be seen from some distance away, and members of the Marshall Police Department and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department blocked off part of Elaine Avenue to control traffic on the street.
At one point Monday afternoon, flames could be seen on the outside of the house. Firefighters used a ladder truck as they worked to put out the fire.
Klaith said there was one fatality in the fire, who was believed to be a resident of the house. The house was a total loss, he said. More information on the cause of the fire wasn’t available Monday night.
