NU man faces felony narcotic drug sale charge

NEW ULM — A 22-year-old New Ulm man who allegedly sold a confidential informant (CI) 2.2 grams of meth in New Ulm Feb. 28 faces a felony narcotic drug sale charge in Brown County District Court.

Cody A. Jakes, 1446 Oak St., was charged with third-degree felony drug sale Oct. 30. According to court documents, a Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renvllle Drug Task Force (DTF) agent was contacted by a CI who said they could buy a gram of methamphetamine from Jakes on Feb. 28. The CI was fitted with an electronic recording device, provided $40 in pre-recorded DTF buy funds and told to meet Jakes who would be driving an old, maroon Chevy truck to Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Agents followed the CI’s vehicle to the Wal-Mart parking lot where the buy was made. Agents followed the CI’s vehicle to a pre-determined location where the CI handed a bag containing a white substance to a DTF agent. The substance weighed 2.2 grams on a non-certified scale and field-tested positive for marijuana.
