Nicollet County board approves best power project option
ST. PETER — The Nicollet County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved what its considered the best option for a new transmission line Oct. 10.
Public Works Director Seth Greenwood asked commissioners to consider approval of the Huntley-Wilmarth 345 kV project. Xcel Energy and ITC Midwest are proposing a new transmission line between the Huntley and Wilmarth electrical substations.
Comments are being solicited by Xcel Energy to help determine what proposed segments will be included in its application to the Public Utilities Commission. Some of the routes would impact Nicollet County and not serve its best interests.
Commissioners agreed the best option would be to put a new transmission line adjacent to existing lines to provide the least amount of impact to county residents. Nicollet County’s resolution is in alignment with North Mankato’s resolution.
