Fire was arson; woman charged

NEW ULM — Investigators have ruled that a Saturday fire at 509 1/2 Center Street, Apartment 1, was an arson.

Charged in the arson is Tanya Marie Lieder, 37, of 509 1/2 Center Street, Apartment 1, the New Ulm Police Department said Monday in a press release.

Lieder is charged with one count of arson in the first degree and a second charge of obstructing the legal process because of her action when she was arrested, according to the press release.

The New Ulm Fire Department, New Ulm Police Department and Minnesota State Fire Marshall investigated the fire.

It appears that there were two points of origin in the kitchen area of the apartment, the press release also said.

Assistant Brown County Attorney Dan Kalk is prosecuting this case, supervised by Brown County Attorney Chuck Hanson.
