Fire was arson; one charged

NEW ULM — Investigators from the New Ulm Fire Department, New Ulm Police Department and the Minnesota State Fire Marshall have ruled that a Saturday fire at 509 1/2 Center Street, Apartment 1, New Ulm, was an arson.

Charged in the arson is Tanya Marie Lieder, 37, of 509 1/2 Center Street, Apartment 1, the New Ulm Police Department said Monday in a press release. Lieder is charged with one count of arson in the first degree and a second charge of obstructing legal process because of Lieder’s subsequent action when she was arrested, according to the press release.

It appears as though there are two points of origin in the kitchen area of the apartment, the press release said.

Assistant Brown County Attorney Dan Kalk is prosecuting this case and it is being supervised by Chuck Hanson the Brown County Attorney, the press release said.
