A gift from Heilbronn
New Ulm’s Turner Hall had a visitor from Germany with a gift this week. Hans Mueller, left, from Heilbronn, Germany, brought a fan scarf from the Heilbronn Turnverein’s soccer club to present to the New Ulm Turners on Wednesday. Mueller has visited Minnesota many times since being an exchange student in Minneapolis in 1953, and first visited New Ulm in 2000. The gift was given in honor of William Pfaender, who was born and grew up in Heilbronn, and helped found the Heilbronn Turnverein in 1845 before coming to the U.S. and helping found New Ulm. Accepting the gift are (from left Virginia Suker Moldan, Turner Hall manager; Yvonne Weber, Ed Weber, and David Hirth, members of the Turner Hall board of directors.
