NEW ULM — The Sleepy Eye Area Concertina Club is hosting a benefit concert for State Street Theater (SSTC).

From noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, will be the Polka Party Extravaganza at SSTC featuring Johnny Helget with Nick Stadick and Donnie Klossner with John Arsers. Tickets are $8 in advance, $12 at the door and $3 for kids 12-years-old and under.

“Way back in October of 2016, the State Street Theater helped us with the World Concertina Congress Hall of Fame here in New Ulm,” Concertina Club Secretary Tina Losleben said.

The concertina club decided to help out SSTC’s Capital Campaign with a $500 donation and now this benefit concert.

Performers will be up on the main stage along with tables and a dance floor. Tired guests or ones who do not want to dance can sit in the theater seating to watch the performers.

Barbecue, hot dogs, Schell’s beer and pop will be sold. All proceeds go the SSTC Capital Campaign.

The capital campaign is nearing $200,000 committed. The campaign seeks to separate the utilities, repair the roof and replace seating among other things.

“We are waiting now for an assessment report from an architect,” Campaign Coordinator Mary Ellen Domeier said. “He is going to tell us what the priorities should be but the very first thing has to be separating the utilities from the other part of the building.”

Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Chamber of Commerce at (507) 233-4300 or Losleben at (507) 276-7253.
