SPRINGFIELD — This week the Springfield municipal pool opened its a new water slide feature. The new slide replaces the old slide and features more twists and turns.

Construction crews finished installing the slide early last week. Friday was the first day kids could try the slide; however the slide was closed early on the first day to make some adjustments.

Staff said a few cracks at the top of the slid needed to be filled. The extra fixes did not effect the structural integrity of the slide, but were necessary to secure it for winterization. In the cold months water pooling in the cracks then freeze causing greater damage.

By Saturday afternoon the slide was ready for use again. The Kuehn and Mueller boys the first to slide down. For safety purpose riders are instructed to lay on their backs with arms across their chest, but Noah Mueller confirmed the safest method of sliding is also the fastest and most fun.

The Springfield Municipal Pool is open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday. On Sunday the pool is open for family swimming from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 1 to 6 p.m on July 4th.
