Middle school probes ‘shooting’ comments, finds no credible threat
NEW ULM — District 88 investigated reports Thursday that a group of students at the New Ulm Middle School made comments about shooting teachers in their classrooms.
Parents were alerted to the issue in an email from Superintendent Jeff Bertrang.
In the email, Bertrang emphasized there was no credible information to support the statements.
School Resource Officer Michael Brehmer and Middle School Principal Michelle Miller investigated the incident. They will continue to work with the students and parents involved, according to the email.
“We take the safety of our staff and students seriously,” Bertrang said in the email. “Should you hear about the incident, please know that we are working to resolve what transpired and what we need to follow up on. If you hear concerning information from your student, please call the district office at 507-233-6180.”
Bertrang ended the email by promising the school will remain vigilant in its safety processes.
The email was sent out as part of the Campus notification system. Parents have the option of signing up to receive alerts via email and phone.
Journal calls to the school district were not immediately returned.
