School Board OKs summer projects

NEW ULM — ISD 88’s School Board approved $500,000 worth of capital improvement projects slated for this summer.

At a later-than-usual board meeting Thursday night, the board voted to approve four projects at the middle school, Jefferson Elementary and the Washington Learning Center (WLC).

Projects include portions of the middle school roof and carpeting, casework at Jefferson and ceilings at WLC.

Most of the projects are items that the school intended to do last summer but was unable to get finished.

In other business, the board passed two items that are fairly standard and usually come up each year.

The first was the approval of revisions to the Brown County Public Health Contract. The contract is an agreement for providing health services to non-public schools in the area.

The contract is written up each year before school is in session and usually gets revised based on actual enrollment numbers submitted to the Minnesota Department of Education.

This year the contract was revised down $1,855 from a $65,539 projection, to $63,684.

The second item was a resolution instructing the administration to examine district programs and staff for reductions.

Most years the resolution is passed to give the adminstration authority to evaluate programs and staff. It does not mean anything will be cut or that the administration will recommend any reductions.

The next study session will be held on Thursday, March 9, at 5 p.m., in the district conference room at the middle school. The next regular board meeting will be held Thursday, March 23, at 6 p.m. in the district boardroom at the middle school.
