The mayor is parade through town, visiting business establishments, and a few watering holes, to declare the beginning of Fasching.
Every year the Narren, New Ulm’s masked dancers, invade New Ulm City Hall, kidnap the mayour, and declare that Fasching is beginning.
On Friday, the Narren had to hunt through city hall, following clues to find Mayor Bob Beussman hiding in the City Council chambers.
They wasted no time dressing him in rags and dragging him through the city streets, informing the citizenry that it is time to celebrate.
