Winter Dairy Workshop in New Ulm Thursday

NEW ULM — Minnesota Dairy Initiative is providing an educational Winter Dairy Workshop for dairy farmers and industry professionals on Thursday, Feb. 23 in New Ulm, at Turner Hall. Attendees will be able to learn about “Preparing for the Next $12 Milk” and “Forage Planning for the Whole Year.”

Registration will begin at 9:30am with presentations starting at 10 a.m.. Cost is $10 per person. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP with Heidi Sellner at 507-276-3595 to reserve your spot.

Pam Uhlenkamp, a Farm Business Management Instructor with South Central College will be presenting on “Forage Planning for the Whole Year”. Pam has been a FBM instructor for 7 years and is currently working with 50 farms including crops, beef, swine and dairy. Previous to FBM, Uhlenkamp worked as a swine and cattle nutritionist for Land O Lakes. She has a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Minnesota.

“Preparing for the Next $12 Milk” is the topic of discussion for Jason Vavra, Director of Milk Procurement and Membership at Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI). Vavra has been with AMPI for 16 years. During his career, Vavra has been focused on member services, working as a field representative, an area manager, with butter and cheese contracting, and for the past 10 years has been charged with the producer contracting program for the cooperative as Director of Milk Procurement & Membership. Vavra holds a bachelor’s degree in dairy science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
