NEW ULM — Hundreds of children took part in the Park and Recreation’s Winter Blast celebration Monday at Vogel Fieldhouse. The event was free to the public and featured seven inflatables.

The inflatables included classics such as the bounce castle, National Guard obstacle course and basketball hoops.

The most popular inflatable seemed to be the life-size Hungry Hungry Hippos game. Four competing kids were tied to bungee cords and raced to collect the most balls.

Recreation Program Supervisor Joey Schugel said between 700 and 800 kids were expected to attend the event.

Winter Blast is one of the four or five Days of Play sponsored by local business. The events are typically scheduled for days without school. The next Day of Play is in August.
