Sleepy Eye school board OKs $450k HVAC project

SLEEPY EYE — The District 84 Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution for a $450,000 high school gym heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) project Wednesday.

Superintendent John Cselovszki said the project will be funded by 2017A General Obligation  bonds to be sold within the next 30 days by Ehlers & Associates of Roseville.

District Finance Director Amanda Boomgarten explained that the four-year project bonds will begin in fiscal year 2018, after existing bonds for a $2.5 million HVAC project in other parts of the school expire.

The board approved:

• Donations including anonymous $500 donations to the ceramics (art) program, for elementary library books and for the music program; FFA program donations of $1,000 from Mathiowetz Construction, $114.78 from River Region Cooperative; $24.92 from River Region for FFA; and $250 from Sleepy Eye Medical Center for a science anatomy class.

Sleepy Eye High School SPOTS (Students Performing On Tough Situations) presented a couple skits to the board. Performing students were senior Anna Landkammer, juniors Clarissa Simonsen and Isaac Nelson and freshman Kalli Christensen.

• Elementary paraprofessionals Danielle Peterson and Kandace Arndtson for 6.75 hours a day @ $10.38/hr. plus ECFE/ECSE paraprofessional Faith Helget, 10 hrs./week @ $10.38/hr.
