Street closed

A section of North Fifth Street near the New Ulm Medical Center was closed to traffic Tuesday, to repair a broken water pipe beneath the street. The city was alerted to the problem Monday night and excavated a section of the street Tuesday morning. The exact cause of the breakage was unknown. The crew said it could have been caused by shifting ground or simply the old age of the pipe. Staff photo by Clay Schuldt
