Maidl honored by Hub Club
NEW ULM — Approximately 150 people braved the ice for one of the largest Farm-City Hub Club Award Banquets in the history of the club.
The Annual Meeting and Service to Agriculture Awards Banquet took place Monday evening at the New Ulm Country Club. Joe Maidl was given the honor this year for his years of service to the club and many other community organizations.
Even Santa made an appearance in honor of Maidl’s long career playing the jolly old elf. After the dinner and before he got his plaque, the club celebrated his accomplishments by roasting him.
Five people stood at the lectern to share stories, jests, jokes and barbs with the audience. A common theme was Maidl’s history of “buying high and selling low,” Andrew Maidl, Joe’s adult son, joked.
Each roaster eventually wound down to toasting Maidl by the end of their speech. They thanked him for the effort he has put into all of the activities he participated in and urged Maidl to continue the good work.
After the good-natured ribbing, Pete Neigebauer presented the award to Maidl, and the honoree gave his thanks for everyone.
“The Hub Club is a great organization. If we can continue to promote the ag and the safety in our communities, as well as supporting our local businesses and our venture, we will always have a great place to live, and by supporting and investing in FFA and 4-H, we are only going to make our future stronger,” Maidl said.
