Jerry Kill at NUHS Epilepsy Awareness Game
Former University of Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill (center, with blue cap) was a surprise visitor at the New Ulm High School girls’ basketball game against Le Sueur-Henderson Friday. The game was the third annual Epilepsy Awareness Game held in honor of Kayleigh Hogue.
Hogue, a Sleepy Eye High School graduate, died on June 5, 2013 at the age of 24 from an epileptic seizure. Her sister, Dani, is a player on the New Ulm High School team.
Kill, who has dealt with epilepsy for several years, cut his coaching career short at the U of M last year in mid-season to get his condition under control, but he has made appearances at two of the 5K runs held in Sleepy Eye in the last three years in honor of Kayleigh and her brother Tyler Hatley.
Kill, who is now associate athletic director for administration at Kansas State University, accepted an invitation to attend the game, the only high school athletic event in Minnesota dedicated to epilepsy awareness.
