Sleepy Eye man charged in sexual assault

NEW?ULM – A Sleepy man faces several charges in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on March 26 in Sleepy Eye.

Roger L. Martinez, 33, 237 1/2 Main St. West, Sleepy Eye, was charged Tuesday with felony second-degree criminal sex conduct-penetration, second-degree criminal sex conduct-force/coerce, threats of violence, aggravated first-degree tampering with a witness, tamper with witness – prevent inform to police.

According to a Statement of Probable Cause, Sleepy Eye Police received a report on March 26, from Springfield Police regarding a sexual assault that involved Martinez and two other people in a residence in Sleepy Eye.

The victim said that during the attack two people held her down while Martinez penetrated her. After the assault, the victim went to Springfield Medical Center to complete a sexual assault test.

The victim said she told Martinez to stop six times. She told police she started bleeding heavily after the assault, especially because she had a lot of stitches after recently giving birth to her son. She also said her head hurt because it hit the floor. Martinez threatened to “find her” and “kill her” if she told anyone about the assault. The victim told police she was assaulted for about 15 minutes.
