Court Proceedings

Brown County

District Court

• Maria Linan, 52, 504 Main St. W., Sleepy Eye, was charged Monday with three counts of felony issuance of dishonored check Monday.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police were given a report drafted by Coborn’s on July 31 regarding a total of $4,158.92 in five payroll checks from a company called Bros2 Construction that were cashed at Cash Wise in New Ulm from May 2017 through September 2017 and returned with non-sufficient funds. Two people cashed the checks. They were identified as Alejandro Guerra and Maria Linan.

It appears that Linan owned the business but on the checks, her last name was spelled Lynan. Coborn’s Loss Prevention staff established check casher identity from a database customers must enroll in using a state-issued photo ID card and finger print.

The total of all checks Linan cashed was $1,900. She was summoned to appear in court at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 16.
