• Nancy A. Portner, 1415 Valley St. S. was charged with felony 5th-degree drug possession-not small amount of marijuana and felony receiving stolen property in Brown County District Court March 19.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police did surveillance at 1415 Valley St. S. on March 14 after a search warrant was approved, related to property stolen during a Watonwan County burglary. Stolen items included two handguns, $20,000 in jewelry, various tools, and other items.

While executing the search warrant, police encountered Portner and learned there was an active arrest warrant on her. Portner was transported to detox, as she was intoxicated on some substance.

In the residence, police found a pipe used for methamphetamine, a drug kit that contained about two grams of meth, and numerous items from the reported burglary including an Infinity laptop computer, dream catchers, flashlights, Knives and tools.

Portner remains in custody at the Brown County Jail.

• LaRoy G. Bailey, 53, Doniphan, Mo., was charged with two counts of gross misdemeanor 3rd-degree DWI March 19. According to court documents, New Ulm Police got a call at 8:04 p.m., March 16 from a Casey’s General Store employee of a possible intoxicated driver leaving the store at 314 20th St. S. The caller said the driver admitted he just came from a bar and had a hard time walking. The caller said the driver’s vehicle had a Missouri license plate and was westbound, heading towards Broadway.

The vehicle was located by police at the Microtel Inn at 424 20th St. S.. Police saw a male exit the vehicle driver’s door, unsteady on his feet and the vehicle was still running. Police identified the driver as Bailey, who displayed intoxication clues including a strong alcoholic beverage odor coming from Bailey. He failed a Preliminary Breath Test and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. He provided a breath sample for analysis at 9:20 that showed an alcohol concentration of .19 grams per 210 liters of breath.
