Court Proceedings

Brown County

District Court

• Nickolas L. Cheever, 35, 205 Summit Ave., Hanska, was charged with gross misdemeanor emergency telephone call disruption and misdemeanor domestic assault Friday.

According to court documents, a Brown County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to a domestic dispute at 205 Summit Ave., Hanska on Aug. 3. The callers said the man, who was trying to leave the residence, had punched, twisted her thumb back and prevented her from calling 911.

The deputy located the vehicle described by the caller at a gas station and identified a man standing nearby as Cheever.

Back at the house, the victim said they had been fighting all week and she had recently kicked him out. The argument became physical when he grabbed her face and tried poking her eyes out, and he knocked the phone out of her hand when she tried to call 911. He had then hit her in the face. She tried calling 911 again, but the man kept hitting her as she lay on the floor.

The couple’s four children were present during the attack, and had been throwing things at the man to get him to stop. She started to kick him off her, was yelling for help out the front door, and was able to call 911, and eventually the man left.

The woman had lips that appeared to be swollen and redness on the face.
