• Andy J. Cardin Jr., 27, 215 Water St. S.W., Sleepy Eye, was charged with felony domestic assault Friday. According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police were notified by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office of a domestic in progress on Wednesday, April 19 at 215 Water St. S.W., Sleepy Eye.

Police met a woman outside the residence who identified herself as the alleged victim. She said her boyfriend, Cardin, slammed her against a wall, she slapped him to get him off her, then she called 911. Police observed some redness on the woman’s upper chest.

Cardin told police the woman came up to him and slapped him and he didn’t do anything to her.

A witness who lives in the residence supported the victim’s version of events including that the witness heard arguing, a loud thud like someone being slammed into a wall, then Cardin telling the witness to lie to police for him.

Cardin was arrested for domestic assault. A review of his record showed he was convicted of fifth-degree assault-inflict or attempt to inflict bodily harm April 30, 2012 in Redwood County Court and gross misdemeanor domestic assault subsequent violation Oct. 26, 2015 in Brown County Court.

• Alexis Flores, 21, 221 Summit St. S.E., Sleepy Eye, was charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation and gross misdemeanor domestic assault-subsequent violation and misdemeanor disorderly conduct-brawling or fighting, Friday.

According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police were called at 7:48 p.m., April 19 to 221 Summit St. S.E., Sleepy Eye because Flores was reportedly drunk and out of control. At the scene, police found several parties in the ditch. The witness grabbed Flores around the waist and was trying to pull him away from another male who was wrestling with Flores. An officer pointed his Taser at Flores and handcuffed him.

Police administered a Preliminary Breath Test to Flores that indicated a .089 blood alcohol content and told Flores he would go the Brown County detox for the night. Flores was adjudicated of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer-demonstrable bodily harm or throws/transfers bodily fluids on Oct. 21, 2013 in Brown County Court, which is a qualified, domestic violence-related offense.

Police asked that a warrant be issued for Flores’ arrest so he may be taken into custody upon release from detox and appropriate release conditions may be set.
