Last minute gift giving ideas — punch cards and/or gift certificates for Civic and Rec Center memberships, programs, etc.

Nu-You Lose 2 Win 60-day Weight Loss Challenge: New Ulm’s second WLC providing the Community with resources needed to meet and surpass all types of fitness goals. Program includes access to the Rec Center, including weekly group exercise classes, grocery shopping and nutrition information and presentations from local experts in health and wellness. Grand prizes will be awarded for individuals in 3 categories: Highest percent weight lost, highest percent inches lost, highest body fat percent lost and grand prize for team with highest percent weight lost. Register online or at the Rec Center by January 5.

Special No School Open Swim offered Dec. 27 and 28 (Thursday and Friday) from 1-4 p.m.

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-2:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply.

Open Broomball runs Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Civic Center. Admission is $4.75 per person or punch cards are available for $42.75 for a 12-punch card. This is a non-checking league, open to men and women, ages 18 or older. Players may divide into teams for a fun, competitive workout and challenging game play. Helmets, broomball stick/broom and broomball shoes are required. Shin guards and gloves are recommended. Limited equipment available on a first come-first serve basis.

Outdoor Skating Rinks- Crews continue flooding outdoor rinks. The warmer temps experienced lately has made good ice making difficult. Continue checking the Journal, Facebook and the City’s website for warming house opening announcements.

Winter/Spring Activities Guide will be distributed in the Journal Sunday, Dec. 30 with registration beginning Monday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. Be sure to check out our offerings.

Tot Swim- Held the first and third Fridays of the month; Jan. 4, 18 from 9:30-11 a.m. This is an opportunity to swim and play with your tot in the shallow part of the pool. Toys provided and tot slide will be open. Whirlpool is closed during this time. Admission is $2.50/tot.

RENU Update: Johnson Park is nearing completion of the design phase; construction is scheduled to begin June and completed in October 2019. The Hermann Heights Park project is in design phase to realign Monument Street and install curb, gutter, parking lots and sidewalks. Proposals have been received and finalists interviewed for Architect and Engineer design services and Construction Management services for the Recreation Center projects. A final selection of firms will be made soon and design phase will begin early 2019. Projects include ADA and mechanical upgrades to the indoor pool, indoor zero depth entry and plunge pool, indoor playground, health and wellness center and gymnastics facility. Discussions on the Dome continue as we look for a location.
