Off the Shelf: A new face at the library
There’s a new face at the library. I’m excited to join the staff at the New Ulm Public Library as the new Library Director. I cruised into town in the waning days of October hoping to get a peek at a prolonged autumn. The snow seems to have followed.
The time has flown by yet I’ve been a librarian for almost 12 years. I’ve worked in public libraries for most of my career albeit a brief stint at an academic library as a graduate student and an internship at a special library in an advertising firm. Most recently I was the branch manager of a suburban library in the Lansing Michigan area. Previous to that, I worked in Skagit County, amid the stunning North Cascades of Washington State, and started my library career as an Assistant Library Director in the southwest corner of Kansas. I’m originally from the Detroit area so I should be used to the cold and snow however that doesn’t appear to be true!
Almost three and a half weeks into my time here in New Ulm and it’s nice to work with such a wonderful staff and a great and involved community. I’m excited to join the community and look forward to meeting a lot of you this year. Come in soon to say hello and check out the events that are going on in the library.
One of the first programs I had a chance to sit in on was Smitten with Squash with Amanda Paa from Heartbeet Kitchen. It made me request her book to look up more recipes and also pick up a delicata squash at the grocery store last weekend. It’s the perfect time for the last days of autumn as we prepare for the holiday season. We’re excited to get a special visit from St. Nikolaus on Wednesday, December 6 at 6:45 p.m. The program will start at 6 p.m. with a St. Nikolaus-themed storytime and craft.
We have many projects in the works at the library as the year draws to a close and I’m excited for what we have in store for next year. Come in soon and say hello and check out what’s going on in the library!
