Sleepy Eye FFA at State Fair

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was well represented at the State Fair in 2017. The following members showed livestock at the State Fair: Josie Lang, Isaac Nelson, Brianna Polesky, McKenzie Cselovszki, Hanna Himmelman, Macy Schenk, Lauren Klein, and Cassidy Hoffmann. Maranda Braulick and Martina Nienhaus were assistants for the FFA show weekend.

In the Crops Division at the Minnesota State Fair, there were 1303 total crop samples. Of those, Sleepy Eye had over 600 crop samples and 103 exhibitors. There were 15 total chapters competing in the Minnesota State Fair Crops Show.

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was named High Point Chapter and Winner of the Minnesota State Fair Crop Show. Sleepy Eye FFA won the crop show with 2533 points. Jackson was awarded 2nd with 878 points, and Mountain Lake was 3rd with 609 points. This is the 8th year that Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter has won the Minnesota State Fair in the past 10 years.

Crop Show Exhibitors and their placings:

Hunter Rose had the Champion Oats Sample and was 1st place Overall Individual for the State Fair FFA Crops Show. Hunter has had an amazing showing at the Minnesota State Fair over the past six years. He has had the Best in Show exhibit four years, has been a High Point New Exhibitor, was the State Fair Crop Show Winner three times, and has had numerous Champions throughout the years.

Other top five finishers at the Minnesota State Fair include: Natalie Sellner – 2nd place overall for the Crop Show at the State Fair. Parker Neid – 5th place overall for the Crop Show at the State Fair. Jason Elmore also had the Champion Rye Sample for the State Fair.

The Dairy Exhibitors earned the following placings:

• Showmanship – Isaac Nelson 8th, Josie Lang 11th

• Purebred Holstein: Winter Heifer Calf – Josie Lang 4th, Isaac Nelson 6th

• Purebred Holstein: Fall Heifer Calf – Isaac Nelson 5th

• Purebred Holstein: Fall Senior Yearling Heifer – Isaac Nelson 2nd

• Purebred Holstein: Two Year Old Cow – Isaac Nelson 2nd

• Purebred Holstein: Cow 3 Years Old – Isaac Nelson 1st

• Purebred Holstein: Cow 4 Years Old – Isaac Nelson 2nd

The Goat Exhibitors earned the following placings:

• Individual Meat Market Class 1 – Brianna Polesky 10th

• Commercial Breeding Meat-Type Doeling Class 1 – Brianna Polesky 5th, Macy Schenk 8th, Lauren Klein 10th

• Commercial Breeding Meat-Type Doeling Class 2 – McKenzie Cselovszki 4th, Lauren Klein 8th, Hanna Himmelman 12th

• Commercial Breeding Meat-Type Doeling Class 3 – McKenzie Cselovszki 13th

• Commercial Breeding Meat-Type Yearling Does Class 1 – McKenzie Cselovszki 10th

• Commercial Breeding Meat-Type Yearling Does Class 2 – Hanna Himmelman 10th

The Sheep Exhibitors earned the following placings:

• Champion Ewe Commercial Breeding Ewe Lambs Class 3 – Cassidy Hoffmann 3rd & 6th

• Commercial Ewe Lamb Pairs Class – Cassidy Hoffmann 6th

• Blackface Market Lambs Class 5 – Cassidy Hoffmann 2nd

• Blackface Market Lambs Class 7 – Cassidy Hoffmann 5th
