In Appreciation

Legion Riders

grateful for support

We would like to express our appreciation for all the support the Legion Riders Post 132 have received through our raffle, omelet breakfast and steak/shrimp fry and pork chop ride. We have donated to many worthwhile projects throughout the year including; donation to persons in need due to medical expenses, Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Sons of the American Legion for halloween costs, American Legion National Emergency Fund, Legion for Veterans Christmas, Legion Scholarship, and to the American Legion towards replacement of flooring and parking lot paving.

The American Legion Legacy Scholarship was created as a result of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war of terror leaving many children of our active-duty military personnel in single-parent households. The funds raised will ensure that higher education is a reality for these families. Beginning in 2017 the scholarships were expanded to include children of VA-rated post 9/11 veterans with a combined disability rating of 50% or higher.

Last year 41 students each received $18,000 each in scholarships. This year we are donating a total of $5,358.50 which includes donations totaling $920 from the following businesses:

Bob Webb Insurance, Chuck Spaeth Ford, Citizens Bank, D & A Truck Line, Fischer Law PA, Freedom Financial, Greg Peterson, Karla Havemeier, LTD, Leavenworth Silage, Miller/Sellner Implement, MR Paving, New Ulm Dental, New Ulm Tire, S & S Motors, Southpoint Financial Credit.

In addition to the Legion Riders donation the following also donated to the Legacy Scholarship Fund.

American Legion Post 132: $250

American Legion Auxiliary 132: $500

Thanks from Girl Scout Day Camp

Thank You to everyone who helped make Girl Scout Day Camp a success: to Thrivent Financial for a donation used for food, Arneson Distribution, Sleepy Eye, for a donation of Buddies Grape, New Ulm Area Youth Soccer Association and Wayne Owens for soccer equipment, and always, to Finstad’s Oak Haven Campground for the continued use of their facility. Thank you to our guest presenters and planners, each presenting about a county close to their hearts: Connie Grams and Anita Esser (Guatemala), Mary O’Connor and Brenda Guldan (Ireland), and Tamara Furth (France). And thank you to those who make camp possible — our volunteers, adults and older scouts alike.
